In Kenya, research by Prof. Julius Huho (as cited in Murikira, 2022) revealed that 60.5% of university students were unaware of the country’s National Climate Action Plan. This shows a critical challenge: young people, who are most vulnerable to climate change and key to driving solutions, often lack access to climate policy knowledge, leadership training, and platforms for engagement.
At Climart Africa, we exist to close this gap. Through leadership training, non-academic scholarships, climate action projects, and advocacy platforms, we equip students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to engage meaningfully in climate leadership. By empowering students to understand and contribute to Kenya’s climate agenda, we are raising a generation of young leaders ready to turn awareness into impactful action.
Solutions to Close the Gap
Raising awareness among students is therefore essential—not only to empower them with the knowledge to take part in climate initiatives, but also to ensure that Kenya’s climate goals are achieved through active youth engagement and leadership.
Yet, despite these daunting realities, youth from Africa have shown resilience, passion, and an insatiable hunger for change. Climart Africa recognizes the invaluable efforts of dedicated individuals and groups who have led the charge in raising awareness, advocating for vital policy changes, and driving the implementation of grassroots climate solutions.
At the forefront of the climate movement, these young climate enthusiasts have demonstrated their commitment to creating a sustainable future for our planet. We aspire to nurture and cultivate the next generation of Climate Champions from this rich pool of passionate and proactive individuals. By empowering these future leaders with knowledge, resources, and support, we aim to amplify their impact and accelerate the fight against climate change.
Climart Africa’s Mandate
At Climart Africa, these solutions are at the heart of our work:
- Through Non-Academic Scholarships, we remove financial barriers that prevent disadvantaged students from accessing leadership opportunities in climate action.
- Through Leadership Training, we empower students with skills, mentorship, and exposure to climate strategies, ensuring they are aware of and aligned with Kenya’s national climate policies.
- Through Climate Action Projects, we mobilize students to lead local initiatives like tree planting, community awareness campaigns, and eco-innovation challenges.
- Through Advocacy & Awareness Campaigns, we close the information gap by simplifying climate policy into student-friendly resources and platforms.
- Through Partnerships, we connect students to schools, organizations, and policymakers, ensuring youth voices are included in climate conversations.
